Anti-inflammation

In a recent study, the intestinal anti-inflammatory activity of hesperidin was evaluated in the acute stage of the trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) model of rat colitis. The results showed that pretreatment with hesperidin (10 and 25 mg/kg) reduced colonic damage compared to TNBS control rats. This effect was confirmed biochemically by a reduction in colonic myeloperoxidase activity compared to non-treated colitic animals. Colonic glutathione levels in colitic animals were significantly increased after hesperidin treatment. Hesperidin improved colonic fluid absorption, which was impaired in colitic animals. In conclusion, hesperidin was able to prevent colonic inflammation by protection against oxidation.

Heart Health

Regular hesperidin consumption may decrease blood pressure and improve blood vessel function in people who are overweight, after four weeks of daily consumption of a hesperidin supplement, participants’ diastolic blood pressure was significantly lower and endothelial function was significantly improved.
Hesperidin shows promise for people who have had a heart attack, in a study in Sichuan Hospital, people who had a myocardial infarction took either a hesperidin supplement or a placebo for four weeks. At the study’s end, those who took the hesperidin had significantly decreased levels of some of the inflammatory markers.

Diosmin

Product name: Diosmin
Plant Latin Name: Scrophularia nodosa
Product specifications: 90%, 95% HPLC (European Pharmacopoeia)
Appearance: pale yellowish powder
CAS No .: 520-27-4
EINECS number: 208-289-7
Molecular formula: C28H32O15
Molecular weight: 608.54

Diosmin is a flavonoid extracted from scrophularia nodosa. It is an pharmaceutical ingredient used in the treatment of venous disease, such as chronic venous insufficiency including spider and varicose veins, leg swelling, stasis dermatitis and venous ulcers. It is also used in the treatment of hemorrhoidal disease.
There are extensive clinical trials that show diosmin improves all stages of venous disease including venous ulcers and improves quality of life.
Diosmin has been found to be effective in helping treating hyperglycemia in diabetic rats. Diosmin might have potential in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, and its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic activity has been proved in neuronal cells.

Diosmin extends the vasoconstrictor effect of norepinephrine on the vein wall, increasing venous tone, and therefore reducing venous capacitance, distensibility, and stasis. This increases the venous return and reduces venous hyperpressure present in patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency.
Diosmin improves lymphatic drainage by increasing the frequency and intensity of lymphatic contractions, and by increasing the total number of functional lymphatic capillaries. At the microcirculation level, diosmin reduces capillary hyperpermeability and strengthens capillary resistance by protecting the microcirculation from damaging processes.
Diosmin reduces the expression of endothelial adhesion molecules, and inhibits the adhesion, migration, and activation of leukocytes at the capillary level. This leads to a reduction in the release of inflammatory mediators, principally free radicals and prostaglandins.

Synephrine

Product name: Synephrine
Plant latin name: Citrus aurantium
Product specifications: 6%-80% HPLC
Appearance: brownish yellow powder
CAS No .: 94-07-5
EINECS number: 202-300-9
Molecular formula: C9H13NO2
Molecular weight: 167.20

Weight loss
Bitter orange extract has been used as a weight-loss aid and appetite suppressant due to its active ingredient, synephrine.
Synephrine is a beta-agonist compound similar to ephedrine. It can increase the metabolic rate via increasing lipolysis and basal metabolic rate. These effects are independent of diet for the most part, and can exert a passive increase in basal metabolic rate to produce weight loss over an extended period of time.
Stimulant
Bitter orange contains tyramine metabolites N-methyltyramine, octopamine and synephrine, substances similar to epinephrine, which act on the α1 adrenergic receptor to constrict blood vessels and increase blood pressure and heart rate.
Studies have shown that the enhanced energy of synephrine can stimulate the central nervous system. This integration may include enhancing the blood circulation of the heart and brain tissue, boosting blood pressure and improving mental activity.
Gastrointestinal system discomfort
As a traditional medicine in China, bitter orange extract has been used to relax and reduce the flatulence to stimulate the stomach function and thus enhance the digestive tract system activity. This may also help to relieve nausea and eliminate stomach discomfort.
Sterilization
Bitter orange extract is a non-toxic sterilizer. It exhibits an inhibitory effect on bacterial growth, in vitro, also inhibiting the infection of certain viruses. Bitter orange extract is therefore widely used as a disinfectant solvent, a food or cosmetic preservative, and as a fungicide, an antibacterial agent, in addition to a biocide and an antifungal agent.

Neohesperidin

Product name: Neohesperidin
Plant latin name: Citrus aurantium
Product specifications: Min. 95% HPLC
Appearance: Gray white powder
CAS No .: 13241-33-3
EINECS number: 236-216-9
Molecular formula: C28H34O15
Molecular weight: 610.56

Blood Vessel Health
Neohesperidin is helpful in curing the fragility of capillaries and high permeability of plasma protein. It been known as a vitamin to maintain capillary permeability or Vitamin P.
Sweetener
Neohesperidin is a natural sweetener, neohesperidin dihydrochalcone (hydrogenated neohesperidin) is more than 1500-2000 times sweeter than sucrose, which is widely used in juice, wine, beverages, pastries and pharmaceutical formulations, especially for diabetic foods.
Skin health
In a study on the anti-allergic activities of Narigin and Neohesperidin in Shenyang Pharmaceutical Technology University, Naringin can inhibit the IPR, vLPR ear edema effectively in the dose of 20mg/kg, various phases of swelling are inhibited effectively in the dose of 100mg/kg. Neohesperidin inhibits the vLPR phase effectively in 20 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg dosage. Although the inhibitory effects of these two components are not as strong as prednisolone, but they can be long-term medication because the two ingredients are natural flavonoid glycosides, without toxic side effects.
Other benefits
Neohesperidin can significantly inhibit the growth of human gastric cancer cells. Neohesperidin has inhibitory effects on gram-negative bacteria, gram-positive bacteria and saccharomyces cerevisiae.
